🌷गारव सुत्त Reverence🌷

ऐसा मैंने सुना । Thus have I heard.

एक समय भगवान् अभी तुरत ही बुद्धत्व लाभ कर उरुवेला में नेरजरा नदी के तौर पर अजपाल निग्रोध के नीचे विहार करते थे। तब एकान्त में ध्यान करते भगवान् के चित्त में ऐसा वितर्क उठा-बिना किसी को ज्येष्ठ माने और उसके प्रति गौरव रखते विहार करना दुःखद है । मैं किस श्रमण या ब्राह्मण को ज्येष्ठ मान, उसका सत्कार और गौरव करते विहार करू ?

On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Uruvela on the bank of the river Neranjara at the foot of the Goatherd’s Banyan Tree just after he had become fully enlightened. Then, while the Blessed One was alone in seclusion, a reflection arose in his mind thus:
“One dwells in suffering if one is without reverence and deference. Now what ascetic or brahmin may I honour and respect and dwell in dependence on?”

तब भगवान् के मन में यह हुआ–अपरिपूर्ण शील की पूर्ति के लिये ही किसी दूसरे श्रमण या ब्राह्मण को ज्येष्ठ मान उसका सत्कार और गौरव करते विहार करना चाहिये । किन्तु, मैं- देवताओं के साथ, मार के साथ, ब्रह्मा के साथ, इस सम्पूर्ण लोक में; तथा श्रमण ब्राह्मण देव और मनुष्यवाली .. इस प्रजा में-अपने जैसा किसी दूसरे श्रमण या ब्राह्मण को शीलसम्पन्न नहीं देखता हैं, जिसे अपना ज्येष्ठ मान उसे सत्कार और गौरव करू।
अपरिपूर्ण समाधि की पूर्ति के लिये ही किसी दूसरे श्रमण या ब्राह्मण को ज्येष्ठ मान उसका सत्कार और गौरव करते विहार करना चाहिये ।।
अपरिपूर्ण प्रज्ञा की पूर्ति के लिये ही…।। …. अपरिपूर्ण विमुक्ति की पूर्ति के लिये ही।
अपरिपूर्ण विमुक्ति-ज्ञान-दर्शन के लिये ही किसी दूसरे श्रमण या ब्राह्मण को ज्येष्ठ मानकर उसका सत्कार और गौरव करते विहार करना चाहिये । किन्तु, मैं अपने जैसा किसी दूसरे श्रमण या ब्राह्मण को विमुक्ति-ज्ञान-दर्शन से सम्पन्न नहीं देखता हूँ, जिसे अपना ज्येष्ठ मान उसे सत्कार और गौरव करू।

Then it occurred to the Blessed One: “It would be for the sake of fulfilling an unfulflled aggregate of virtue that I would honour, respect, and dwell in dependence on another ascetic or brahmin. However, in this world with its devas, Mara, and Brahma, in this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, its devas and humans, I do not see another ascetic or Brahmin more perfect in virtue than myself, whom I could honour and
respect and dwell in dependence on.

“It would be for the sake of fulfilling an unfulfilled aggregate of concentration that I would honour, respect, and dwell in dependence on another ascetic or brahmin. However … I do not see another ascetic or brahmin more perfect in concentration
than myself. . ..
“It would be for the sake of fulfilling an unfulfilled aggregate of wisdom that I would honour, respect, and dwell in dependence on another ascetic or brahmin. However … I do not see another ascetic or brahmin more perfect in wisdom than myself….
“It would be for the sake of fulfilling an unfulflled aggregate of liberation that I would honour, respect, and dwell in dependence on another ascetic or brahmin. However … I do not see another ascetic or brahmin more perfect in liberation than myself….
“It would be for the sake of fulfilling an unfulflled aggregate of the knowledge and vision of liberation that I would honour, respect, and dwell in dependence on another ascetic or brahmin. However … I do not see another ascetic or brahmin more perfect in the knowledge and vision of liberation than myself, whom I could honour and respect, and on whom I could dwell in dependence.

तो, अच्छा हो कि मैं अपने संबुद्ध धर्म को ही ज्येष्ठ मान उसे सत्कार और गौरव करते विहार करू । तब, सम्पति ब्रह्मा भगवान् के वितर्क को अपने चित्त से जान, जैसे—बलवान् पुरुष समेटी बाँह को पसार दे और पसारी बाँह को समेट ले वैसे ही– ब्रह्म-लोक में अन्तर्धान हो भगवान् के सामने प्रगट हुआ ।
तब, सम्पति ब्रह्मा उपरनी को एक कन्धे पर सम्भाल, भगवान की ओर हाथ जोड़कर यह बोला
भगवन् ! ऐसी ही बात है। भगवन् ! ऐसी ही बात है । भन्ते ! पूर्व युग के जो अर्हन्त सम्यक् सम्बुद्ध हो गये हैं, वे भगवान् भी धर्म को ही ज्येष्ठ मान उसे सरकार और गौरव करते विहार किया करते थे । भन्ते ! भविष्य काल में जो अर्हत् सम्यक् सम्बुद्ध होंगे, वे भगवान् भी धर्म को ही ज्येष्ठ मान उसे सरकार और गौरव करते विहार किया करेगे ”। इस समय, अर्हत् सम्यक सम्बुद्ध भगवान् भी धर्म को ही ज्येष्ठ मान उसे सत्कार और गौरव करते विहार करें । सहम्पति ब्रह्मा ने यह कहा ।

“Let me then honour, respect, and dwell in dependence on this very Dhamma to which I have fully awakened.”
Then, having known with his own mind the reflection in the Blessed One’s mind, just as quickly as a strong man might extend his drawn-in arm or draw in his extended arm, Brahma Sahampati disappeared from the brahma world and reappeared before the Blessed One. He arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, raised his joined hands in reverential salutation towards the Blessed One, and said to him:
“So it is, Blessed One! So it is, Fortunate One! Venerable sir, those who were the
Arahants, the Perfectly Enlightened Ones in the past-those Blessed Ones too honored, respected, and dwelt in dependence just on the Dhamma itself. Those who will be the Arahants, the Perfectly Enlightened Ones in the future-those Blessed Ones too will honour, respect, and dwell in dependence just on the Dhamma itself. Let the Blessed One too, who is at present the Arahant, the Perfectly Enlightened One, honour, respect, and dwell in dependence just on the Dhamma itself. ”

यह कहकर फिर यह गाथा कही :
भूतकाल में सम्बुद्ध जो हो गये, अनागत में जो बुद्ध होंगे, और जो अभी सम्बुद्ध हैं, बहुतों के शोक नसानेवाले । ‘ सभी धर्म के प्रति गौरव-शील हो, विहार करते थे और करते हैं, वैसे ही विहार करेंगे भी, बुद्ध की यही चाल है । इसलिये, परमार्थ की कामना करने वाले, और महत्व की आकांक्षा रखनेवाले को, सद्धर्म का गौरव करना चाहिये, बुद्ध के उपदेश को स्मरण करते हुये ॥

This is what Brahma Sahampati said. Having said this, he further said this:
“The Buddhas of the past,
The future Buddhas,
And he who is the Buddha now,
Removing the sorrow of many-

“All have dwelt, will dwell, and dwell,
Deeply revering the true Dhamma:
For the Buddhas
This is a natural law.

‘Therefore one desiring his own good,
Aspiring for spiritual greatness,
Should deeply revere the true Dhamma,
Recollecting the Buddhas’ Teaching.”
